On today's "Making a Neighborhood" we're chatting with Scott Redfield of Redfield Salon. Winner of Jacksonville Magazine's Best in Jax for 2017, this luxury salon in historic Five Points features a passionate owner and staff who are involved in their community and care about making a difference in the neighborhood.

What makes Redfield Salon unique?

REDFIELDS prides itself on customer care and attention to the details. You will have an experience unlike anywhere in Jacksonville.

How would you describe your business to someone who has never heard of it?

REDFIELDS is a hair salon that houses the best talent in the city. We are a group of professionals that take our work seriously, creating the best result for our guests, in an atmosphere of charm and elegance.

What is your favorite (or most popular) Redfield Salon service?

This is a tough one. To choose between our shears or our color brush is next to impossible. If I were to say what the most popular service has been, that would have to be our color service, specifically Balayage.

How has Redfield Salon grown since you started the business? And how would you like it to continue to grow?

REDFIELDS is a business that I had opened to create just that, growth. A space to grow as an artist, to perfect my craft, and ultimately enhance the client experience . Over the cause of my career I have learned the most from my peers. We all have skills that we are especially good at, and our team shares those talents with each other, enriching (growing) the business naturally. I see new projects on the future horizon will continue that.

Do you have any unique stories about your business?

We hosted a customer appreciation event at the salon on our one year anniversary. It was truly a unique event. I was humbled to hear the many thanks from all of our regular guests that day, and much to my surprise, a visit from Jayne Atkinson (Free Willy, 24, House of Cards) and husband Michael Gill (House of Cards, Mr. Robot).

Are you from this area? If not, what made you move?

I am from St. Clair, Michigan. Beautiful, but cold! I moved to this area because I had a sister that I would visit here. I just felt like home. That was 14 years ago.

What drew you to owning a business in the Riverside Avondale area?

My first visit to Riverside was at the age of 14. I was hooked. I loved the energy and mixture that this neighborhood provided. Riverside to me said, “There is a place for everyone."

What is your favorite aspect of the Riverside Avondale neighborhood?

The mix. Something for everyone and everyone can have something.

What are your favorite restaurants in the area?

Too many to list. We are fortunate to live in such a food rich neighborhood. With that said, you will see me frequent, 5 Points Tavern, Urban Corner, 13 Gypsies, and Hovan, to name a few.

What's your favorite date night activities in the area?

I will never turn down the classic - dinner and a movie (Sun-Ray).
