Beach Road Chicken Dinners Jacksonville FL
Beach Road Chicken Dinners Jacksonville FL

It's place as a Jacksonville landmark restaurant is well-earned. If you could travel back 75 years to 1939, as the country was just coming out of the Great Depression, Beach Road Chicken would not look radically differently than it does today. Though over the decades, it has expanded (not a whole lot), and they still have lines-out-the-door on some nights. And their take-out business has practically overtaken their dine-in crowds. Hard to believe that in 1939, "take out" food was seen as a novelty that no one was sure would really catch on.

Now in their 75th year, it's worth saluting Beach Road Chicken as more than a restaurant, but as a piece of Jacksonville history -- a tradition. The Atlantic

San Marco Streetscape Update - San Marco Square
San Marco Streetscape Update - New San Marco Square Rendering
By: Alan Aptheker

The roundabout is done, and my, what a learning curve (pardon the pun) it has been for some drivers. All you have to know is this: yield to the driver in the circle. That’s it – that’s all. Now let’s fast forward to the new extended green space that is planned to extend Balis Park into the square, allowing for two one-way streets to pass through San Marco Square, as opposed to the thin and tiny two ways that are inevitably rush-hour clogged.

The San Marco Preservation Society (SMPS) has a computer rendering of the future space that shows the final product.  SMPS is offering a way to donate to the project, and leaveyour mark on the square for posterity. For $100, you can

Three F(x) Ice Cream and Waffles - Made to Order Ice Cream
Three F(x) Ice Cream and Waffles - Made to Order Ice Cream
By: Alan Aptheker

Actually there’s no fish in the fish. It’s called taiyaki, and it’s a stuffed waffle in the shape of a fish. Not only it is cute as a button, but it’s absolutely delicious. And that’s just one of the sweet treats on the menu at Three F(x) Ice Cream and Waffles on Baymeadows road near Southside Boulevard. Now that we’ve explained the mystery behind the “fish,” you’re asking, what’s with the funny name. The three “Fs” are for Fresh, Fruits and Fun. the “(x)” (remember Algebra?) is the unknown. You fill in the blank. You want a savory taiyaki for lunch? Not ready for dessert just yet? They actually stuff those fish-shaped delights with a beef frank and string cheese, or the

Jacksonville Housing Market Update

Jacksonville is mentioned as one of the top five metro areas that should show some growth in several economic indicators, according to the National Association of Home Builders/First American Improving Markets Index (IMI). Those categories include employment, housing prices and new housing permits. Here are some current stats, which are slated to improve, at least for the first six months of 2013. The data comes from the publication, MLS Newsline:

Though new residential listings are down by about 4%, the number of pending and sold properties continue to increase 16% and 4% respectively. Average and median sales prices have increased year over year by 5%, while the number of new distressed sales being in the MLS system have dropped by 10%. Another
