Riverside Avondale Preservation recently announced the date for their 2020 Annual Meeting. The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 20 from 7-8:30pm at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd at 1100 Stockton Street. 

The annual meeting will include announcing the 2020 Preservation Award Winners, as well as a special presentation from Dr. Wayne Wood. He will be sharing the first lecture of an eight-part series entitled the Riverside Avondale Historic Institute; this presentation will be on "The History of Riverside".

There are two upcoming workshops that are focusing on tree care. While they are being hosted in Riverside Avondale, the information shared will be beneficial for all Jacksonville residents. 

The first workshop is occurring on Saturday, January 11th and is focused on pruning young trees. The event will run from 9:30-10:30am, and is hosted by Friends of Boone Park South and Riverside Avondale Preservation (RAP). According to the event description, "the best way to prevent structural failure of trees during storms is to maintain them properly. This workshop will offer hands on demonstrations of pruning techniques for homeowners with young trees. Participants will be able to use the information presented to prune their own trees, or be informed so they

Springfield Preservation and Revitalization Council (SPAR) will be hosting two historic preservation workshops in the first quarter of 2020. 

The first workshop is COA and Siding Repair, and will be held on January 21. According to the event page, attendees will "learn about [the COA] process, what requires a COA and what does not, and how to be most efficient with your time when it comes to renovating a historic property" as well as "the guidelines the Jacksonville Planning and Development Department uses to determine the appropriateness of repairing and replacing siding in Historic Districts". Registration for this event is available here. Sign-in will begin at 5:30pm, and the workshop will run from 6-7pm.
